Delving into our history of more than 35 years

We’re one of Yorkshire and the UK’s longest established precious metal recovery businesses, but not a lot of people know our history. Here, in our latest blog post, we take a look at where it all began and how our company has worked to get to where we are today.

Founded in Sheffield in 1974 by our current chairman, Mr Richard Stuart Bruce, RSBruce has always been associated with steel and manufacturing as a result of our region’s rich industrial heritage. For hundreds of years Sheffield has been widely acknowledged for its key role in the UK’s steel industry and is especially recognised for being a crucial source of steel output during the 19th century.

Today, like many cities that were once dependent on traditional industrial techniques, Sheffield has transformed itself. The area is at the forefront of Industry 4.0; embracing a heritage wrought from steel while surging ahead in the field of Advanced Manufacturing, Science and Technology - and RSBruce has continued moving forward with it.

The recovery of precious metals has always been what we’re best known for, and with our typical recovery rate at upwards of 90%, ours is an approach that we believe drives the industry to expect excellence and honesty as standard.

Since our beginnings as a humble scrap metal recovery company specialising in industries such as automotive and pharmaceutical, we have expanded our capabilities and innovated to achieve higher yields and recoveries from the most challenging sectors and applications.  

This has been achieved through investment in the skills of our team, both appointing new talent and promoting from within, alongside major upgrades to our facility, including the design of innovative high performance systems and investing in state-of-the-art equipment.

Taking this approach has enabled us to streamline our processes and introduce new services as and when required to meet the ever changing needs of our customers, varying markets, and the metal and chemical processing industries. This includes the addition of plant cleaning, toll processing, research and development and most recently, battery recycling services.

As a result, we have become the industry acknowledge experts we are today. We pride ourselves on playing a key role in the innovation of the latest techniques used for the removal, recovery and recycling of precious metals, primarily the Platinum Group Metals (PGMs), Gold and Silver and to date have recovered over 1.5 billion pounds worth of value for our customers.
