When turbine blades reach the end of life they are disposed of by the aerospace industry.
In some cases they remain in an internal recycling loop with the engine manufacturer. In this case any precious metal coatings are removed and the alloy of the blade itself is re-melted and re-used to manufacture more blades.
If the blades are not in an internal recycling loop then they can come onto the market either from scrap engines or from dismantled planes. The blades are often mutilated in some way to ensure that they cannot find their way back into re-use.
For these types of blades the opportunity exists to recover the precious metal value.
The first thing to do is check whether the blades have a precious metal coating or not. We do this using XRF technology ( X-Ray Fluorescence ) allowing us to inspect the surface and determine the metals present.
Where there is precious metal present we have an efficient and cost effective two stage process removing all of the precious metal coating which can then be refined and the value realised.
Your blades are processed in discrete batches and the surface coating collected as a dry powder. This can be returned to you as is, we can buy this from you, or we can refine this on your behalf returning you metal onto your account or pay you the monetary value at this point in time.
Typically we process batches of blades of 50KG upwards with no upper limit.
If you would like to discuss the potential for processing of your blades and to receive a no obligation quotation for processing your blades, please contact us.
